Tears of a Dragon

Okay, I believe that some dragon kids have been abandoned long enough. Warning!! This is the last book in the series. There will be spoilers about the last three books. If you haven’t read the last three and don’t want to be spoiled, stop here. If you have read the last three or you don’t care, welcome and enjoy. :-)

Billy, Bonnie, Walter, Ashley, Professor Hamilton, and the rest of their friends are setting off on a mission to confront the greatest evil leveled at mankind. Morgan, Samyaza, and an army of Watchers (fallen angels) are determined to destroy the dragons and take over the world. Things are already looking pretty grim, but when Morgan finally finds a new hostiam, things just get worse. With danger looming at every turn, Billy and Bonnie enter the realm of Dragon’s Rest. There they have to find Clefspeare and two women whose lives were stolen by Morgan. But according to prophecy, Billy must be willing to give his life. Can those outside Dragon’s Rest hold out against Morgan until Clefspeare is restored? Will Billy have to die? Might Bonnie be able to strengthen him with her own heavenly visit? And, will the villain, Devin, and the witch, Morgan, finally be destroyed? I don’t think it would be a stretch to say that this story is just as, if not more, intense as the third. The enemy is more open now, though they still occasionally lurk like a wolf in sheep’s clothing. Thinking over it (and I will confess it’s been awhile since I read the book or had it read to me) there is a subtle theme concerning fathers and their bonds with their kids. And like the other books demonstrated again and again, there is a beautiful display of faith in God by many of the key characters. There is also the classic chivalry that seems to be a favorite of Bryan Davis.

Thankfully not everything is fully high adventure and tense situations. Several characters, Walter and Larry (Ashley’s Artificial Intelligence) being the most common, offer brief moments of smiles and laughter. And at one point where things look grim, Bonnie shares what she saw when she went to Heaven during their last adventure. Although I know it is an author trying to capture what is revealed in Revelation with more . . . (oh, what do I call it, more detail? more vividness? Oh, whatever) in his own words, it feels so inspirational, so wonderful. It is almost like a breath of fresh air in a torrent of darkness. Bryan Davis weaves this final tale within 363 pages divided into twenty chapters. Bonnie once again provides a recap in a letter that spans four pages. There is also the poem “Merlin’s Promise” just before the reader heads into the first chapter. Since this is the final book, there is no teaser for the next book. Although, if one found themselves a newer version, they may find a teaser for the prequel. I don’t know. But that is another series for another time.

Overall, this is an amazing way to wrap up this contemporary, fantasy, adventure story. As with all the books before it, I would highly recommend it. And if I haven’t mentioned this, I truly have these series to thank for causing me to see dragons in a new light to the point of including them as friends and allies in my stories instead of being enemies. So, I guess Dragons in Our Midst will always hold a special spot in my heart because of that. And even though there are some minor questions that we are left with at the end, we are still given the sense of completion, that the danger is past. With that in mind, I am giving this book five roaring dragons out of five.

Hope you have enjoyed this review and that you will enjoy reading the book itself. Bye.
