The Deliverer

Writer's picture: Aslan's PrincessAslan's Princess

Now, since this is the last book of four, there will no doubt be spoilers throughout. So if you don’t want spoiled stop right here and read the first three books. If you have already done so, or you don’t care, please continue on in. :-)

Linette, a young songkeeper, is helping the former Restorer, Kieran, in teaching the people of Hazor about the One. Things are difficult, but Linette strives to do her best. Unfortunately, they need to keep Kieran’s lack of Restorer abilities a secret from the king. But then, King Zarek discovers their cover up. In the midst of everything, Linette loses her memories to the vile high priestess of the hill gods and is separated from Kieran and his teen son, Nolan.

Back in our world, Susan is trying to return to normal life despite her horrid experience during her captivity by the Rhusicans and her worry for Jake as she tensely counts down the days until she and Mark leave to check on him. But it is difficult to return to normal when her friends still look at life and their walk with God through rose-tinted glasses and she must guard her tongue for fear she’ll sound insane. But when the trip through the portal is made, Susan and Mark find themselves in the last place they ever expected or wanted to be: Kahlarea. Can they make it to Mark’s homeland without catching the attention of the assassins? Where is Jake? Is he alright? Will Linette, Kieran, and Nolan manage to escape from Zarek and Hazor? Can Linette ever regain her memories? And who is this mysterious boy who appears out of nowhere?

Here is the final book in the Sword of Lyric series. It is a little different than the first three. Maybe because a good deal of the tale is told through the eyes of a peaceful songkeeper instead of a warrior Restorer. There are also a few years, I believe, between the writing of The Restorer’s Journey and The Deliverer, so possibly even a bit of style difference. I don’t know. It’s like, I can tell that it is a bit different, but I can’t place my finger on the why.

I really enjoyed this book. There were times when I felt giddy, simply because I was guessing a little tid-bit that ended up being right. There was a scene that I nearly cried over because the questions they were demanding of the One were some that I’d been wrestling with consciously and subconsciously since I lost my grandma earlier that year. The last few chapters tickled my romantic side immensely. I also enjoy the fact that the final words hint that the potential for more adventures are still there.

However, I wouldn’t be looking for more to be coming from this series. One reason is simply because of the length of time between the third and fourth book. Another is that I’ve heard that there are some difficulties that the author is having simply in keeping this fourth book supplied. So, it is actually a bit of a miracle that my sister and I managed to get this book for our birthdays. Now, this is simply for the hardcopy I think. I believe that e-book versions of the book are still readily available, but I am not entirely sure. (Simply because I prefer to have hardcopy versions and so I hardly pay attention to electronic versions.)

Sharon Hinck, author of the Sword of Lyric series.

This final book was written by Sharon Hinck. She shared this final chronicle on 314 pages in 36 chapters and an Epilogue. There is one song in the back, but it is arranged as a choir piece with separate vocals for soprano, alto, tenor, and bass. Totally awesome. :-) There is also a glossary and a map. Oh, and due to a special set of circumstances, my sister and I are honored to have an autographed copy. So, if by some wild chance you are reading this, Ms. Hinck: “Thank you so much! Thank you for the book you sent us, and just thank you for creating such a unique and real world. My family and I love it, and will be enjoying your stories for years to come.”

So, I would highly recommend this entire series, giving both this book and the series as a whole, five celebrating dragons out of five.

Until next time. Bye.
