Okay, I think that we have abandoned the characters of The Spectrum Chronicles long enough. So, if you aren’t wanting spoilers from Dream Voyager, stop right here. But if you don’t care, then please follow me.
Consuela has been having a rough time. She blacked out at the start of her first space battle, returning home for a short time before waking in a hospital on the planet Avanti. She barely got to see Wander, a young man she’s fallen in love with, before he was essentially kidnaped by the Hegemony, or overall government, for being a Talent. Now, Consuela and her friend from home, Rick, are on a mission to find Wander and somehow rescue him.
On the other side of the galaxy (or close to it), Wander finds an unlikely friend in a fellow named Digs and is doing everything he can to leave a trail for Consuela and his old friends to follow. But caution is needed. One wrong move and everything could go wrong. Consuela can be discovered as a Talent and be captured. The government can discover the little rebellion on Avanti and squash it. The Shadowlanes and the pirates that navigate them are still out there. Will Wander be able to find and contact Consuela? What will happen between Consuela and Rick? Can Consuela find the path that will lead to Wander?
Okay, if Dream Voyager is to be considered the first third of the “big picture” (most likely true concerning The Dream Voyagers) then Path Finder is a bit of a, um, filler I guess. Kinda like the body of the book that helps you know the characters better, a bit of their home life and starting to show how they’re growing. Also doing its best to vamp the romance as high as possible. Which I will admit they did well with. There is something fascinating about minds and hearts connecting over vast distances. Some may consider it cliche and/or over the top, but when I first read it, I didn’t mind.
Most of the story takes place on Avanti with Consuela and Rick or at the Citadel with Wander. There is another build up and climax of a space battle towards the end. And lets not forget the unforgivable hook at the end that tortured me with its unfinishedness until I finally got the fourth and final book! AAAHHHGGG!!!!! Okay, I’m good, I’m cool. (The joys of finding an incomplete series at a library. :-P)
Once again, this book was written by T. Davis Bunn under the pen-name Thomas Locke until it was published along with the other two sci-fi books in The Dream Voyagers. With 159 pages it divides into twenty chapters with varying lengths. Some of it may be some of my lingering frustration but I’ll have to give the ending three dragons out of five, simply because this is far from over on so many levels.
Like others in the Spectrum Chronicles I do recommend this book for those interested in science fiction and/or romance. And for those sci-fi folks, we are introduced to some super special combat ships called Blades. Want to know why? Read the book.
All for now. Bye!
